A Theological Review of Personal Integrity Based on 1 Corinthians 13:1–13 for Youth Character Formation

The character crisis among contemporary Christian adolescents is increasingly alarming, marked by the phenomenon of cognitive dissonance or "split personality," where a teenager can appear very pious in church activities yet lack moral integrity in digital spaces and social circles. Legalistic-behavioral approaches to character education—which emphasize only external behavior modification through rules—have proven insufficient in forming inner solidity. This study aims to deconstruct and reconstruct the concept of adolescent personal integrity through a profound exegesis of 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. Using a qualitative hermeneutic method, this study reveals that Paul posits integrity not as a human moral achievement, but as an ontological derivation of Love (Agape). Textual analysis shows that integrity without love is "noisy emptiness" (chalkos echon), and character maturity (teleios) is marked by the ability to "rejoice in the truth" (sunchairei te aletheia). The theological implications urge the church to shift from rule-based pedagogy to love-transformation pedagogy, where adolescents are formed to be authentic, whole, and transparent before God (Coram Deo).
