An Analysis of Church Canon Law and Psychosocial Impacts on Children's Faith Formation in Interfaith Marriage

Interfaith marriage in Indonesia presents complex dilemmas involving state law, church doctrine, and pluralistic reality. This study aims to analyze Church Law (Canon/Church Order) perspectives on interfaith marriage and evaluate its psychosocial impact on children's faith formation. Using a qualitative method with an interdisciplinary theology-psychology approach, this study finds that the church views interfaith marriage (disparitas cultus) as a juridical challenge requiring strict dispensation to maintain faith purity. Psychosocially, children from mixed-faith families are prone to religious ambivalence and identity confusion without proper guidance. The study concludes the need for a paradigm shift from a purely legalistic approach to holistic pastoral accompaniment to mitigate the risk of "faith erosion" in the next generation.
