The Transformation of Diaconal-Based Christian Religious Education Pedagogy in the Society 5.0 Era

The era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, has transformed the global educational landscape. In response, the concept of Society 5.0 emerged to ensure that technology remains human-centered. This article examines the relevance and implications of both eras for the paradigm of Christian Religious Education (CRE) in Indonesia. Unlike previous studies that tend to be technical and neglect the dimension of theological anthropology, this research explores how CRE can serve as a moral foundation amidst digital disruption. Using a qualitative method through a critical literature review, the results indicate that CRE teachers can no longer merely transfer doctrinal knowledge; rather, they must transform into facilitators of character formation (Imago Dei). The biggest challenges in Indonesia include the digital infrastructure gap and technological literacy among educators. This article concludes the need to redesign the CRE curriculum by integrating 21st-century skills (critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration) without losing the essence of biblical spirituality.
